Your Refund Amount
In Canada, when you make contributions to a registered federal electoral district association, you are eligible for a federal political tax credit. This tax credit, applied against the balance due on your federal income taxes, is based on the total amount of all your federal political contributions in the year, calculated as follows:
- 75% on the first $400 contributed
- 50% on the amount between $400 and $750
- 33 1/3% on the amount over $750 up to $1,275
The federal political tax credit is capped at $650 per year.
Contribution Rules
The 2025 individual annual limit on contributions, in total, to all the registered associations, nomination contestants and candidates of each registered federal party is $1,750. (The individual contribution limit to each registered federal party is a separate $1,750).
By submitting a contrbution, I certify that:
- I am a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada and I am making this contribution with my personal credit card and not a corporate credit card.
- This contribution is not from a corporation, trade union, association or group.
- The funds I am contributing are from me and are not being provided by another person or entity for the purpose of making this contribution.
- If this contribution is made on behalf of my spouse, then the credit card balance will be paid from a joint bank account under both our names.
